The Filaments is an existing residential block in Wandsworth that we were called to attend and review the requirements for an access scaffold, installed from Level 04 to Level 11 roof for full access to repair cladding, however without the option to bear on the Level 04 roof slab.

Node Scaffold Design was contacted to attend site to survey the area and discuss solutions with our client and the contractor on site. Due to the Level 04 slab not having the loading required to support the scaffold access. Due to this, the brief was to design a bridge span of approximately 24.00m clear over the roof area, with heavy duty support towers on each side down to ground and podium level. This was accomplished using multiple Apollo 1500 X-Beams to achieve this span, and Layher "Power Towers" installed at each end to accommodate the extreme loadings being transferred to ground.

Alongside this monster bridged access scaffold, the client also requested an option for hanging access installed around the perimeter of the penthouse levels for repairs in these areas. The team at Proplant pitched the client an option for rolling hanging frames to enable cost and time savings, and we produced full 2D and 3D design for the rolling frames to enable load checks to be carried out on the roof frame, as well as for the residents to be able to review the proposal in full 3D.

This was a challenging and interesting project to be involved in, working alongside one of our long term clients to produce detailed design drawings and analysis, with the end result being installed to an extremely high standard.
