Heavy Duty Hoist Runoff

Brogan Group

January 2018

The Post Building, close to Holborn station, is a new development of over 260,000 sq ft of office space. Brogan Group were contracted to carry out a number of internal scaffolds to facilitate steelwork access, as well as to provide heavy duty hoist runoff platforms to the north and south elevation. We were consulted with to carry out the designs for the hoist runoff scaffolds due to the complex nature of the structures, and the existing logistics around the area.

The key challenge with this design was the requirement for the hoist runoff scaffold to be located directly over the main logistic entrance for the sites deliveries. Due to the high load class of the scaffold that was required for the 2T twin hoist access, the supporting scaffold around the structure entrance was designed to take nearly 10 tonne of loading through a single tower. The base scaffold structure was also erected in phases, allowing ground works to be carried out.

Node Scaffold Design developed a full 3D model, to ensure our structure did not clash with logistics or proposed works. This allowed our client and the main contractor to see clearly how the structure would fit into their site. Once the model was reviewed and confirmed to meet site requirements, full 2D drawings were generated and submitted for construction.
